Digital Learning Day Assignments and Instructions
Parents and students, below you will find instructions for how my students can complete their assignments during our absence from the classroom. I will be using google classroom and have sent each student an email invite but will also include the class code in case parents want to join. Parents, the students are responsible for completing 3 assignments each week that we are out. They will turn these in to me upon return to school as a portfolio. Parents, I have included the assignments below so you can view what they are responsible for completing through google classroom.
If the assignment is a document, they are to complete the document and it will be graded for accuracy in their process and results. If it is a video, they will be writing a brief 4-6 sentence synopsis. It will also include anything they have learned. These will be graded as writing assignments within our performance category.
Week 1

5. Benchmark 3- Construction (this is an old test used as a review)
Assignments
Attention Everyone!!! So that I can have something to grade each week, I will pick an assignment for students to turn in via Google Classroom. This weeks assignment is the response to "How to Measure and Cut Rafters." Please have this assignment posted by 3 pm Friday. Also, continue working on the other assignments to add to your individual portfolio. Thanks!

* For each of these videos I would like for you to practice your note taking skills and post those as your assignment (s). Remember to use math and construction lingo and please feel free to leave me any questions within your notes.
Week 4 (After Spring Break)
Hello everyone. I hope you all well able to disconnect in some way over our spring break and at least enjoy time with family. As we move forward with our digital learning weeks, the format is going to change slightly. Starting this week, I will post 2 assignments to be due by Friday of each week. Each of these assignments will be due. Therefore, the students will be posting 2 assignments each week instead of 1. Below are the assignments to be posted and I will post these in our google classroom page as well.
1. Writing Assignment- pick a task that we have studied recently and explain how the process works. This topic could be anything from layout and cutting stairs, framing a wall, wiring a 3-way switch, setting a door, etc. You get to pick the scenario, the specific size and shape of what you are working with, and the tools that you have at your disposal. Use your creative skills as well as your construction knowledge to explain your process from start to finish. Be sure to include both mathematical and construction lingo in your writing. The length of this assignment should be no shorter than half-page of explanation followed by any illustrations you may want to use.
2. Lumber and cost estimation- for the following worksheet, complete all problems with cost analysis and material estimations. You can use your local home improvement store for update cost.
Benchmark 2- April 21
I have posted the benchmark on my google classroom. If you choose to complete the benchmark, I will grade it and use the grade only if it is higher than BM1. If you do not choose to complete BM2, I will use your BM1 grade for both benchmarks. Thanks guys and good luck!
Week 6, 4/27-5/1
Assignment- This week I would like for you to learn about the many different roof types that are frequently and not so frequently used in construction. Your job is to research at least 3 different types of roofs and explain each in a writing assignment. Explain the similarities, differences, and different types of uses in your writing.
Week 7, 5/4-5/8 The last day to submit an assignment is Friday 5/8
Assignment- Below you see the pythagorean theorem, a common theorem used in geometry and algebra to solve many issues involving right triangles. Explain how the pythagorean theorem can be used to help complete a task in construction. Remember to use complete sentences and both mathematical and construction language in your explanation.
Additional Assignment (This assignment can be completed if you wish for it to replace a grade that you received throughout the semester. If you are satisfied with your current average, then you do not need to complete the assignment).
This will be an expository/constructive writing assignment that I will grade much like a performance essay in your language arts class; however, I will be paying closer attention to your thought process and your ability to use construction terms correctly.
1. Explain how to build a house. There is a certain construction process and order of operations necessary to complete the construction process. Identify each of these as you explain your reasoning for each step and any necessary codes and/or problems that may slow down or speed up the construction process.
